Take a Stand

Xmen3*SPOILER ALERT*
This has got to be the best movie this summer. I completely loved it from start to finish. The action scenes were superb! The scene at the Grey’s house was unbelievable, as well as the Danger Room scene at the start and the "realignment" of the Golden Gate Bridge. But it was weird and equally funny that they stopped the traffic in broad daylight and when his army invades Alcatraz it was dark as night hahaha. And another scene where Logan was being chased by this bone-extruding mutant, he had two stab wounds in his stomach, and in the next scenes, his shirt was clean, not a trace of blood.

I loved Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat, the Beast and Juggernaut ("You bitch!" in a thick European accent). Colossus and Angel and of course Wolverine were hot! Didn’t like the fight scene of Bobby and Pyro though, it looked lame. I read there’s going to be an X:4. Can’t wait! Rogue was so-so, but Storm got better here. Cameron Bright, who played Leech, looked very familiar and then I find out he was the kid in Godsend and Birth. He looked pretty hehehe.

One thing that put me off was the cheesiness of the scene where Logan kills Jean. WTF?! You’re turning all softie now? Doesn’t suit your macho image dude. But what the hell, it’s the last installment. Or is it? Had to sit for 5 minutes or so as the credits rolled by just to wait for this 30-second clip showing Dr. Xavier "surviving" in another man’s body… SABI SA INYO SPOILER ALERT EH! It’s one movie I’m willing to watch for 3… or more times… hehehehe :P

Spa_day_1Twas a great Friday last week. Spent the afternoon at The Spa Alabang for a much-deserved Swedish massage, and merienda at Via Mare, all taken care of by Teacher Gila. We spent the rest of the day at Kat’s house drinking, eating and singing, and it was the first time I tried ****. If only I didn’t have school the next day! See our pictures in my profile :)

Have you seen the new Bench commercials?! TO DIE FOR si SAM!!!! WAAAAAH! *drool*

Captain_hook Today was Colby’s last day in school and last night I was up til 1am to prepare his farewell gift. He was supposed to perform Day-o for his mom and properly say goodbye to his friends. But he didn’t want his mom to leave his side so she gave in and allowed him to go with her to another farewell party. I brought out the pirate book with tears welling up my eyes. Bronwyn needed more tissue. The look on Colby’s face as he reached out for his specially made pirate book was absolutely priceless. "Teacher, how did you make this?" I totally forgot for a moment my own worries as I saw that look of disbelief and utter appreciation. I’m pretty sure even as he grows up, he will never forget this gesture.

I’m crying again as I write this, as I’m missing Colby terribly. But more than anything, it’s because I feel I did something right. And at this lowest point in my life, I need all the affirmation I can get - that I am not a bad person and I don’t deserve to be treated like crap. It’s so much harder now that it’s something I have to keep from my family. But thank God for friends who continue to stand by me and believe that it wasn’t stupidity that devoured me. You are the gems of my life.

Davinci… as one of the anagrams go in this highly-anticipated adaptation of Dan Brown’s best-selling novel. And Tom Hanks had to say what it was for me to remember that it was "Madonna on the Rocks" hehehe. It had been a long time since I last read the book (the third time?) so I can’t really tell if the book was better. Well, maybe it did, because it was too unrealistic to see Hanks decode the anagrams and the cryptex in just a snap of a finger. The "Da Vinci Declassified" special on Discovery Channel ruined its mystery but I still found it cool. It was funny that the only thing that dissolved papyrus in their experiment was muriatic acid haha.

There are loads of websites and books refuting Dan Brown’s supposed "facts". One of them is http://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/davinci-code.htm. It’s one of the easiest to read and I manage to snicker as the scenes slowly unfold. Hats off to Paul Bettany as Silas, Ian McKellen as Teabing and Jean Reno as Bezu Fache, galing nila as always. Did you know that Dan Brown actually thought of him as he was writing about Fache? Anyways, it was quite amusing that Magneto and Doc Oc (Spiderman 2) are in one movie hehehe.

I just have to say that Audrey Tatou is such a doll! I loved her hair (and that’s what I remember most about the movie) and I’m thinking of having mine styled the same way. Tom Hanks is getting old! Why does Robert Langdon have to be described as a Harrison Ford look-alike in a tweed jacket? But Ford is way older and he and Sophie would really look awkward together.

It’s just fair that this movie was given an R rating. It’s really annoying that a lot of people continue to create such a fuss about it being blasphemous and all, when they haven’t even read it! Just as Dan Brown keep reiterating, it’s fiction and it was never meant to cause a ruckus like this. Well, maybe he did, and he’s now raking in millions, that lucky bastard hehehe. He’s really an outstanding storyteller that some stupid people lacking in faith actually regard his work as gospel truth. I’m absolutely amazed as to how he was able to mix historical facts with his fantastic imagination with this and the rest of his books. More than anything, the book and the movie have only stirred so much interest in history, religion and the arts that even non-readers like my brother started to hoard books as much as I am. Isn’t that a good thing? And now there’s even a Da Vinci Code travel tour going around Europe. That’s so cool! Another thing to add to my ever growing list of to-do’s before I die.

I’m glad I got to read it first. As much as I am an absolute Angels and Demons fan, nothing beats the book :)

“What Have I Done to Deserve This?”

…as Addison complained as she was being treated for poison oak in the you-know-where in Season 2. She assumed it was karma getting back at her for sleeping with McSteamy Mark. And so I begin to think if karma has been getting back at me lately. And you know what? It did. I recently bought two identical tops from a sale but was only charged for one. I knew the saleslady would most likely bear the consequence of my action, but I just kept quiet as I signed the sales slip. And what do you know, when I got home I found that the other one was of a smaller size even if they were marked with the same size. Also, there were some missing sequins on it. Not only that, when I wore the other top, I found a little hole on the side. Sigh. No matter how long it takes it to get back at you, it will still do. Trivialities like this wouldn’t normally matter, but one should really be scared of the bigger ones.

Adrenaline rush

Mi3_2I don’t think I can last the weekend without seeing M:I:3 so I decided to catch it today since I had time to kill naman. Armed with a small bag of HKC and a tall banana mocha frap, I ran to catch the 4pm screening.

**SPOILER ALERT**
You don’t really watch this kind of films for the story, right? But it has one naman, syempre highlighting the aspect of the universal truth of how love conquers all. Blech. Baduy. Corny. The romantic in me really had to see that first. And the cynic in me had to react to it as such hehehe.

Philip Seymour Hoffman was good and it made me curious as to how he was in Crash, among his other movies. Where else did he appear again? Ving Rhames had some funny lines, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers was cute
haha. Maggie Q was stunning in that red number! Maybe Michelle Monaghan
is Bridgette’s sister? And I’m not really sure about this, but you can actually inject adrenaline in someone? Pardon my igorance. And one more thing. Jules really had to be a nurse in that movie. If she had been a preschool teacher, would she still be able to revive Ethan? Talk about coincidence haha.

As usual the effects were breathtaking and overwhelming. What else could I say? Do they really blow up roads and really expensive cars just like that? So what car was driven by Zhen around the Vatican?  And then what happens after filming? Hehehe. Stupid questions, I know. :)

If there was something that I really loved about the film, it’s how they featured the Vatican. It had only intensified my fascination and anticipation for The Da Vinci Code. That will be one movie that I will surely catch on its first day of screening.
*****
I was walking to and from Glorietta, seeing all those yuppies hurrying to get somewhere and it just dawned on me that I don’t miss the corporate life at all! If there were some things that I yearn for, it’s the money and my outfits hahaha. And maybe for the last 5 years those were the things that has kept me preoccupied? Geez. Now I go to work in flipflops and nobody cares. I can even go to work in matinong pambahay. And life could not get much better :)

I was about to write about dating and being set up with someone but the idea just flew out the window since I had a hard time accessing my blog the last 2 days or so.
