Running with Scissors

Sunday, July 30th, 2006

If there is one place in this world you should stay away from, it’s any Bench FIX salon. I just had my worst haircut in my life yesterday and I almost burst into tears as I walked out. I told that b*st*rd I want it layered and with bangs. And so he snapped away, eventually chopped off a lot but leaving so much more in the wrong places! In the middle of the whole thing I had a sinking feeling already but was still hopeful that he’ll manage to pull up a decent look. BUT HE NEVER DID! Consumer rights advocates would probably kill me if they find out I still paid for such horrendous service without making a scene. Sigh. I should’ve complained… or just used his scissors to cut his balls and left him to bleed to death!
And so I left the mall with a heavy heart but decided to pass by our friendly neighborhood parlor to set things in order. The guy managed to make it look good thank God! Can’t deny I got this style from my idol (secret!) Basta it’s a fresh change for me. Wala rin naman akong pinopormahan so ok na rin haha. Will definitely cut my preparation time in the mornings considerably. The last time I cut my hair this short was back in ‘99, for my birthday. I wonder how people will take it when they see me tomorrow?

New favorite

Saturday, July 29th, 2006

Was forcing myself to sleep listening to my ZVM when this song came on. I have always loved the funky flavor of the Brand New Heavies but it was only last night that I really listened to this song. And what do you know? It’s MY song!

STAY GONE
No, you cannot stay for the night
I’m not your ‘anytime you want me’ delight
I’ve been healing both my body and mind
Found the courage that can free me this time

We’re playin’ by a new set of rules
Baby these were not designed for some fool
See, I’ve taken all that I’m gonna take
It’s the rest of my life that’s at stake

So, don’t you come around drinkin’ high and thinkin’
I’m gonna lay down, ’cause you’re wrong, you’re so wrong
I’m through with letting you walk in, do the talkin’
Puttin’ your hands where they don’t belong, they don’t belong
You can’t just show up, use me, lie and abuse me
This time baby - stay gone, you can stay gone

I’m no longer falling apart
See, I finally got you out of my heart
And if I ever think of taking you back
You’ll remind me how I feel about that

So don’t you come around drinkin’, high and thinkin’
I’m gonna lay down, ’cause you’re wrong, oh yeah damn wrong
I’m through with letting you walk in do the talkin’
Puttin’ your hands where you know they don’t belong, no, no they don’t belong
You can’t just show up, use me, lie and abuse me
This time baby, you, you, you - you can stay gone
(You can stay gone…)

I don’t need the smooth talk on a good night
Doin’ just fine, doin’ alright - stay gone
(I don’t need you, no)

I don’t need the false hope, or the bad dope
Or the rough love, had enough of it - stay gone

You can’t be a no show, whem I’m real low
It’s a no blow, it’s a no go - stay gone, stay gone…gone

So don’t you come around drinkin’, sad and steamin’
Baby let me tell you
I won’t work this time
It ain’t gonna work no
Ain’t gonna work no
I’m tired of letting you hurt me, scream and curse me
Baby, that pain is more than you’re worth
Today is gonna be my day, find you a highway
Hear me baby, stay gone - you can stay gone

You can stay, out there, somewhere
I don’t care, I don’t care - stay gone
(You don’t believe it)

You can take a slow boat or a long road
To a fast plane, to a slow train
Stay gone, stay gone - you can stay gone

Priorities

I don’t know why I was so out of it for the past week. I only finished my project for Literacy and I didn’t give a crap about my draft on philosophy of education for Chichi’s class. It was like my brain was fried from last week’s toxicity that it refused any form of intellectual activity… until I came across a Sudoku puzzle from the Inquirer… man, I was hooked the whole Thursday night! It was my first time to try it, and with a difficulty level of 3, I was able to complete it Friday morning na. I forced myself to sleep because my neck was aching already. I’m still working on my second puzzle and I’m so close to peeking at the solution in today’s paper! Noooo! But now’s definitely the wrong time to be addicted, when I’m drowning in requirements :(
If there’s one thing to be happy about this weekend… I got the highest score in my stat midterms!!! I think I was the only one smiling when I got my paper from the prof hehehe.  Considering I was dreading taking stat this term. Tsk tsk. 5 mistakes?! Hindi ko pa neperfect… mwahahaha! Pagbigyan na ko, I just earned some bragging rights with that hehehe :P
I was in church a few hours ago and I started thinking about my priorities. I just told my dad that I plan to take a master’s degree in another course when I get settled elsewhere. Then I’ll save up so I can tour my parents in Europe. And maybe, be like Chichi someday. For someone who badly wanted to get hitched at 25 (well a few years ago) and have kids, I think life can also be good even without a family to call my own. After all, I’m surrounded by kids everyday anyway, and I think I’ve accepted the possibility that I might not get hitched and/or have kids. But of course there’s always the hope that everything will be the way that I really want it to be :)

Laughter is the Best Medicine

Wednesday, July 19th, 2006

I’m feeling a little bit melancholic right now, maybe because of the weather… and something else. Owel. But in any case, things are good naman. Thank God I’m surrounded by happy people with boisterous laughter and the funniest children on the planet with their quirks. Sobrang ab workout ang laff trip namin nila Jing and Bianca almost everyday and joining the Red Room wasn’t a bad move at all! The children have really diverse characters, all sources of hearty laughter for us teachers. And where else can you find teachers who suddenly burst into song?!
Let me share some stuff about some of the Funny Bunnies:
Renee - "’A’ for Renee!" "We all know frogs go da-di-da-di-da" over and over and over! And as if on cue we would sing, "Just walk away Renee, you won’t see me follow you back hooome…"
Alden - "I love puzzling…" (finishing puzzles you mean)
Sara - our Lucy Whitmore transient who’s going back to Hawaii on the 25th huhuhu… "Sara… Sara… storms are brewing in your eyes… Sara… Sara… no time is a good time for goodbye.."
Andre - our resident kiti-kiti who is this close to wearing a straitjacket. This morning he imitated a monkey so well! "hu-hu-hu-ha-ha-ha" with the arm movements pa talaga!
Jun Oh - the very loquacious! I have never heard his voice. Kahit ibitin ito ng patiwarik hindi siguro to sisigaw sa sobrang mahiyain. Pero panalo pa rin talaga yung pagbisto ni Jing sa kanya kanina!
Matthew - Sya daw si Manny Pacquiao. When asked who won in July 2’s fight, he said "Larios." And we’d react, "Si Larios ba nanalo?" "Si Larios… patay na!" A man stuck in a 2-year old’s body.
And the Cuddly Cubs:
Arnaud - When asked if Arnaud is a boy or a girl, he said "A picture!" since Jing was holding his picture
Brennan - His lolo daw is a pensionado and his Tito Jing is a chickboy like him daw. And so many other quips that I cannot enumerate here. Basta, one of the cutest boys I’ve ever known!
Judd - Brennan wasn’t around one time and we were asking the kids where was he? Judd stood up and looked for Mama Joy, Brennan’s mom! He’s Andre’s counterpart in the first class but much more uncontrollable, suko kahit sino.
Miguel - Usually quiet and reserved, but when we sing about the squiggling octopus, he squiggles in his seat like crazy!
Corinne - When she enters the classroom, she jumps at me to give me a big bear hug. She probably weighs as much as a 7-year-old, and I lose my balance everytime! And she absolutely hates being called "flambe" hehehe.
Absolutely the best job in the world. :)

Th016_1 Seeing Jack Sparrow again, I wonder where my mate Colby is now? I miss him terribly! And I wonder when Bronwyn will give birth to his younger brother?

This has got to be the best movie franchise of all time, it gets better and better! Never have I enjoyed swashbucklers as much as this one. Someone said it is the Star Wars of this generation. It was quite long but has kept me at the edge of my seat (while munching Chimera sour cream popcorn which is absolutely the best!)the whole time. I loved Will, Elizabeth was stunning even with the boyish look, Davy Jones and his crew looked so real (and I’ve mistaken the hammerhead shark for a stingray hahaha), and if only Jack Sparrow wasn’t too scruffy, he would’ve been a close second to Superman! All the action sequences were brilliantly staged (I wouldn’t have left the island if I was there filming with them), the story was amazing, the other characters were also good, the lines were funny, and I was mesmerized by the Bahamas beach and the clarity of the water. *Sigh* One more place to visit before I die.

Can’t wait for At World’s End next summer!

See you in twenty…

Th12293That was what Superman told Lex at the end of the 1986 version. Eerily enough, 20 years later, Superman Returns was released.
And here’s another one:
When Bryan Singer became interested in possibly hiring Routh, he arranged for them to meet in a coffee shop. When they met at their table, Routh stumbled and spilled hot coffee all over the table. Although he panicked, thinking he had just lost the part, Singer laughed and said it actually helped him get the part. The incident convinced Singer that Routh could pull off the clumsy, bumbling Clark Kent.

Superman will always be my all-time favorite hero. I’m not a fan of the comic book, but this movie has taken my breath away just like the previous Superman movies I’ve seen as a kid. I used to have the hugest crush on Superman, and I’ve always daydreamed about him sweeping me off my feet and taking me places. And seeing Christopher Reeves on a wheelchair and eventually finding out he passed away was something that was a little bit difficult to digest back then. And then of course I got older and realized it was fiction hehehe.

If I went gaga over Christopher Reeves, just imagine what has Brandon James Routh done to me and the rest of the female population! Oh my goodness. I just might have drooled all over my seat while watching last Saturday. I could have stared at him for months! Can such perfection actually be a real person? Pati mga guys nababading na sa kanya hahaha. And he seems very nice!! *Sigh* I hope I can still watch on IMAX soon.

I’ve been downloading his pics for about an hour already. I think I’m drooling over the keyboard. Sluuuuurp!
