Apo**Commercial break**
I just have to rant. Traffic was UNBELIEVABLE along Alabang-Zapote Road! Dunno what happened but the typical 45-minute travel time extended to almost 3 hours. It didn’t help it was the time of the month and the heat was unbearable. Pamatay.
**Back to regular programming**
Bought this album two days after it was featured on ASAP. It was the only time in months that the TV wasn’t on AXN at Sunday noon. Was glad to see the trio back on the screen, and we were guessing how old they are now with all the lines and the thinning hair. My dad said Danny Javier seems to be having a hard time with his dentures hahaha!
Hearing the songs brought me back to those days where I’d pop my tita’s Best of APO Hiking Society cassette tape in the player and I’d sing along with the lyrics printed inside. I think I spent countless afternoons doing that :) There have been times my Dad and I would drive somewhere and we’d play the tape and sing together. I was still probably a dark, overweight kid with an apple-cut hairstyle hehehe.
I thought Aia was really pretty (for some reason she resembles Claudine Barretto but maybe it was just the lighting or something) and their rendition of Ewan was refreshing and catchy. I liked it a lot even if some people found it too fast and "poppy" and  sounded like a pathetic disco remake. But I have to agree with Macon that the APO version sounded more sincere, especially if someone’s singing it to me.
Kitchie’s take on Pag-ibig was simple and sincere. Didn’t sound too synthesized to me like how other people found it. I think she can sing naman. Sometimes hehehe.
I hated Barbie for murdering a timeless classic (When I Met You). Sorry pero wala talaga siyang boses at lalong panira pa itong si Rica Peralejo! Grrr…
Isa pang panira? Top Suzara’s version of Anna! He’s worse than Sam Milby! Pinaghandaan ba yun? Naawa ako when he sang it live. His vocal range was too short, or maybe he’d be better off with an easier song. Was it because he was a Universal Records talent that’s why he was included?
Dunno if it’s coincidental that Itchyworms remade Awit ng Barkada, since they were Ateneans like the APO. It was good na rin that the rest of the band were made to sing.
Moonstar 88’s Panalangin seemed so-so at first, but it’s one of the songs that grew on me. Medyo maarte kasi yung pagkanta eh. Pero sige, pwede na rin. The original’s better though.
Kamikazee is obviously trying to be like Green Day. I don’t like Green Day, so I don’t really care much for their crazy antics but surprisingly I’ve been enjoying their songs, like Narda and Martyr Nyevera. Looked like they’ve been having some Doobie-doo themselves nowadays hehehe. I have to agree that it’s the second best cover in this album and they made it theirs this time.
Orange and Lemons’ version of Yakap Sa Dilim actually made me want to snuggle up with someone. Dunno if I should be glad there’s no one to snuggle up with hehehe. McCoy’s voice is very distinct but I think it’s about to get old.
For some strange reason I’m drawn to Yael’s crooning in Nakapagtataka. Yikes weird. Twasn’t spectacular for me but he sounded good. I didn’t even know that it was an APO original.
Didn’t know how to take Sound’s version of Di Na Natuto. It was actually confusing as to which genre they’re trying to be classified under. It sounded off, and Gary V’s take on it was waaay better.
The cover that takes the cake for me? Drip’s Kabilugan ng Buwan. I almost fell off my chair laughing when I saw a blog entry about this song: "Sino ba’ng hindi malalabasan dito?" Riot! Ang sexy naman kasi ng pagkakanta. I wonder how their lead singer looks like. Sana nga maganda sya hehehe.
The rest of the covers were just so-so but was worthy na rin to be included in this compilation. Some were forgettable, but all in all, it was a steal for 300 bucks a pop. I would’ve wanted to get the limited edition but I was too excited to wait for it. What’s Limewire for anyway? Hehehe.
**Commercial Break #2**
Have you seen the trailer for Maalaala Mo Kaya?! Oh my God, I didn’t know it was actually possible for Rosanna Roces to look that HUGE! Nakakatakot na kumain. My mom said she reached 180-something lbs. UNBELIEVABLE! She now looks like a full-fledged grandmother. Why on earth did she let herself grow that big that fast?! The last time I saw her on TV like a few months ago she’s become a lounge singer and she still looked thin. Or maybe because she was just wearing black? Malamang walang gig kaya she accepted an MMK guesting para may pang-lipo. Yikes.

Chefs and lillies

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006

I actually thought of several ways to start this blog, but anyhoo it’s going to boil down to something very interesting…
Was dropped off in ATC from Martin’s house and I saw Chef Rocco DiSpirito’s poster, who was scheduled to have an appearance sometime soon (I forgot when, nadistract ako eh). How can someone look so hot holding up an armful of vegetables?! Sigh. I wouldn’t mind marrying an Italian. If Charm was able to snag a Puerto Rican chef, I could do as well too! Hahaha. It’s all about the power of the mind :)
Which reminds me, I really hope I’d be able to fly to Hawaii in January. My dad said 60k is too much, but I hope it’s still early to tell if they’ll say no. I hope they do say yes, I’d be maid of honor!!! If last year I was a bridesmaid, and next year I’d be a maid of honor, and if my calculations are correct, in 2 years I get to be a bride naman! Hahaha pathetic na ba to…
Weddings are being planned left and right and it really becomes an annoying wake-up call when your best friend surprises you with an invitation to become her maid of honor for her wedding in 5 months. Well, looking at the bright side of things, I may just meet my Henry Roth with an armful of white lillies for me! "Forgetful Lucy… how ’bout another first kiss?"

It’s Over

Sunday, August 27th, 2006

Before you think it’s about my lovelife again…well… for the first time it’s not hahahaha. I just want to express my tremendous relief that the busiest term I’ve had in DLSU (read: 9 units with Stat and Chichi combined!) has been recently concluded together with the LET that I just took this morning. Can I just say that after the curriculum project, my stat finals and the nonsensically tedious LET (just kidding haha :P), my brain has been squeezed dry? Pero kanina, while sipping my Twinings hot green tea and mint (naks kala mo sosy but I was just too full from dinner hahaha), I was working on (a.k.a. recharging my brain) a Sudoku puzzle with a difficulty level of 5 (courtesy of Sunday Inquirer) which I haven’t finished until now. Pasensya na, just one of my guilty pleasures :)
Expect more posts in the week as I emerge from my hiatus from the social scene (naks kala mo naman social butterfly noh! hahaha). I have so much to write about but let me do it one at a time…
Something to be thankful for today…
Waking up at 4:30 this morning, I went down the kitchen to prepare my sandwich for lunch. My dad comes home with some bread and my ultimate favorite breakfast - tosilog! He knows just how much I’ve been lacking sleep these days and even getting the sniffles. He knows that the only help he can offer is to drive me and bring me my favorite food as support, since I’ve never consulted him for anything academic. He spoils us not with material things, but the simple ones that are usually taken for granted, which one gets to appreciate all the more as they get older, like me. Sigh. If my future husband can be just like that. Not necessarily bringing me tosilog everytime, but being sensitive to my needs, being as naturally funny and very much devoted (to the family) as my dad.
And you know what they say about one’s power to materialize things greatly desired… one just might get it :)

Last week of Term 1!

Monday, August 21st, 2006

Instead of starting on my final project for Chichi, I logged onto Friendster and deleted some 25 people from my list. Was I mean? I figured they won’t notice since we haven’t even spoken to each other anyway. There were classmates whom I’ve never exchanged even a nod with, and there were some former officemates who I just knew by face. And there were some… who I don’t even know. Tell me, could you actually have 500 real friends? Geez.
It’s another Monday, and another episode of House and Prison Break later tonight. I thought this day, being a holiday, I would have reviewed for the LET, studied for my Stat finals and finished my project for Saturday. It’s 5:42 pm and I’ve only gone as far as piling up my LET reviewers and books. Haay. Sobrang petiks na naman. Tamad na kasi ako eh. And my throat is annoyingly itchy… it started hurting after wolfing down McShaker fries and a big bag of Tortillos while watching the last few episodes of Grey’s Anatomy and crying my eyes out. Talk about multitasking :P
I heard some ridiculous and startling news last Friday concerning someone from my past. I can’t believe it… karma is catching up on him sooner and worse than I expected mwahahaha! Couldn’t feel more triumphant than this. It’s even better because it wasn’t my doing. *Sigh* revenge (without lifting a finger) is just so sweet. Tell me if you wanna hear about it hehehe :P

Javier: I like pande(th)al on a (th)unny day… with butter…

The Manhunt is On

Saturday, August 12th, 2006

0051rtafGot home around 7pm last night from school. While waiting for my friend’s call, I was channel surfing and chanced upon a rerun of Prison Break. How lucky can I get? I haven’t seen a whole episode (I keep forgetting the schedule) yet I’ve been getting rave reviews about it. I thought it was a marathon but it was just a back-to-back episode. I think it was the most happening 2 hours of the week so far hahaha. I can’t help but stare at Wentworth Miller!!! I haven’t felt this in a very long time mwahahaha. Taob si Jesse Spencer of House MD. I can’t even understand what Michael Scoffield was saying, all I know is that sobrang smitten ako hahaha. I only get to listen to what the characters are saying when he’s not in the scene LOL. He’s object number one for my Hope Box.
I’m currently looking at Stinky’s photos and facts. Can’t believe my heart is racing just looking at them! Haaaay… the intense stare just gets to me talaga. Let me just share some stuff about him:
Wentworth Earl Miller III
Nickname: Stinky, Went, Miller
Height: 6′ 1" (1.85 m)
- Born in the United Kingdom, raised in Brooklyn, New York, and a graduate of Princeton University, Wentworth Miller is a compelling and critically acclaimed young actor whose credits span both television and feature film.
- Miller began his career in the industry on the other side of the camera. After graduating from college with a degree in English Literature, Miller headed to Los Angeles in the spring of 1995 to work in the development department of a small production company specializing in movies made for television. However, it wasn’t long before his desire to realize the acting ambitions of his childhood became undeniable.
- Within the next few years, he landed guest spots on a variety of shows including Buffy The Vampire Slayer, ER and Popular. He also starred in the Hallmark "mega-series" Dinotopia.
- Miller then segued to The Human Stain, a feature film directed by Robert Benton and starring Sir Anthony Hopkins and Nicole Kidman. A movie examining questions of race, class and identity, it featured Hopkins as an embattled college professor struggling to conceal an incredible secret, with Miller playing the same character as a young man.
- Miller subsequently appeared in the movie Underworld and guest-starred on Joan Of Arcadia and Ghost Whisperer before joining the cast of Prison Break, a groundbreaking television series that’s quickly become an international phenomenon. Playing a structural engineer who gets himself thrown into the same prison where his brother is on death row in order to break his brother out, Miller was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Drama in 2006.
Trivia:
- Graduated from Princeton with a degree in English
- Is of African, Jamaican, English, German, French, Dutch, Syrian and Lebanese descent.
- Graduated from Midwood H.S. at Brooklyn College (Brooklyn, N.Y.) in 1990.
- He has one eye that is a different color than the other. His left eye is green while his right eye is hazel.
- His mother, Roxann, is a Special Education Teacher and a graduate from Yale.
- His father, Wentworth E. Miller II is a Lawyer and a graduate of Yale.
- He has 2 younger sisters, Gillian and Leigh, who is the youngest. Gillian is a Lawyer and Leigh is in Law School.
- A snippet of Wentworth’s guest star role on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (1997), "Go Fish" Season 2, (Episode 20: 5 May 1998), is used in the montage of images in the opening credits for the third season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
- He is allergic to cats and dogs as well as certain foods.
- His tattoos for the show "Prison Break" (2005) are a 4 hour make-up process.
Personal quotes:
- "My experience is that I find myself having to constantly define myself to others, day-in, day-out. The quote that’s helped me the most through that is from Toni Morrison’s Beloved where she says, "Definitions belong to the definers, not the defined" - so I find myself defining myself for other people lest I be defined by others and stuck into some box where I don’t particularly belong."
- "I have a little fantasy where in the last episode of the season, we slip into the prison’s sewer system, up through the grate, and pop out a hatch - and we’re face to face with Matthew Fox and spend season 2 on a tropical beach." - jokingly linking his show, "Prison Break" to "Lost".
- "My father is black and my mother is white. Therefore, I could answer to either, which kind of makes me a racial Lone Ranger, caught between two communities."

Wala, obsession na to hahaha! Anyhoo, I think my heart races for another reason. And I can’t help but smile everytime I think about it :)

Somebody Save Me

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

Recently got reunited with my old Palm again and it’s been helping me a lot to keep track of what I’m supposed to do. Sometimes, though, I get lured into engaging in unplanned things - such as a phone call that spans around three hours (but that’s ok Des, we needed that talk), or a difficult Sudoku puzzle, that I eventually ignore the rest of my To Do list. Going online tonight is one of those unplanned things, and seeing the trailer of CSI:NY will most likely glue me to this seat for the next hour or so, or until I feel sleepy. But I think I deserve all these papetiks. I was sleeping around 1am for the half of last week. It’s my curriculum for the next two weeks, so all the preparation is up to me. The term’s not yet over and so are my requirements. And there’s the LET looming over the horizon. Somebody save meeeeee…… so goes Remy Zero and I.
Read John Gokongwei’s interview in the Sunday Inquirer and I was struck by what he said about Elizabeth, his wife. He was asked if she knew she was the one for him. To which he replied, "No, but I knew. And I tried hard." Wala lang, I don’t think you can ever coax a guy into marriage. Once they decide that someone was for them, I don’t think it ever changes. I never ask, but I’m pretty sure my dad had the same sentiments. Sa sobrang suplada ng mom ko, I’m sure it was a decision he had to think about a great deal! And seeing how he still adores her up to this day, I can’t help but be amazed how he let himself be bound by that decision for the rest of his life. Wow. And my brother? He has had the same girlfriend for the last 6 years and it doesn’t seem like they’re getting tired of each other.
And my point is…? Wala lang. Happy is the man who gets a woman’s first love but lucky is the woman who is a man’s last love. So to my friends who has already found someone along those lines, STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT TRIVIAL THINGS FOR GOODNESS’ SAKE! In this day and age, the likes of my dad and my brother hardly come along anymore. I’m not saying I’m missing half my life because I’m not blessed with such, but come on, the world’s just too small to accommodate everyone’s complaints when there is so much to be thankful for! Even if you think you’re the unluckiest person on earth, I bet the good things would still outweigh the bad ones, if you just stop and change your mindset. I’m convinced it’s still mind over matter, and it’s sad that most people would rather wallow in misery than look at the bright side of things.
Anyhoo, enough of that. My incessant blabbing has made me jump from one topic to another hehehe. I guess I’m just stressed and trying to find my balance. Naks. Tawa na lang kami nila Jing and Bianca. Hay… everyday laff trip ang saya! We started thinking of codenames for our Cuddly Cubs. Arnaud is Matthew McConaughey, Ashley is Zhang Ziyi, Aryaman is Denzel Washington/Jimi Mistri, Corinne is Miss Piggy, and Miguel would be Piolo Pascual! We have yet to think of codenames for Jaime, Brennan and Judd. I’ll post pics soon so you’d see the similarities.
Wala na ko masulat. Antok na ko.
